Dr. Kelsy Burke (she/they) is an award winning sociologist of religion, gender, sexuality, and politics in the United States. Currently a Professor of Sociology at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, the editor of Contemporary Sociology, and an affiliate scholar with the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI). Kelsy is the author of Christians Under Covers: Evangelicals and Sexual Pleasure on the Internet (2016, University of California Press) and The Pornography Wars: The Past, Present, and Future of America’s Obscene Obsession (Bloomsbury, 2023). Her third book is in progress and examines the origins and evolution of the anti transgender movement in the United States. Kelsy’s work has been funded by numerous grants and fellowships, including an award from the National Science Foundation, and has been featured in top academic journals as well as popular outlets, such as PBS and NPR, The Atlantic, Slate, The Hill, The Washington Post, and The Guardian.
